56k.Cloud obtains the AWS IoT Competency
Sion, 28 August 2026 — Amazon Web Services has awarded 56k.Cloud the AWS IoT Competency. AWS grants it to partners who can demonstrate customer projects in production and proven technical expertise in connecting industrial assets to the cloud.
Flying blind between the machine and the cloud
In Swiss manufacturing companies, data stays where it is born: in the PLC, behind walled-off OT networks. Getting to it means custom development, and that can take years. Meanwhile, machines run outside their optimal range. Components worth tens of thousands of francs age faster than they need to, and energy is burned that proper cycle timing would save. For an industry that competes on precision rather than on labor costs, this is not an IT topic: it is a question of competitiveness.
From experimental project to competency
56k.Cloud's IoT work began in 2022 with a first AWS IoT Greengrass project for an American security company. The setup was experimental and the nascent IoT team spent long nights preparing demos for a customer with high expectations. Since then, the company has built a mature IoT engineering practice and developed its own AWS IoT reference architecture. Today, its systems run in metro networks carrying millions of passengers a day, in safety-critical installations, and in Swiss industrial production.
Three projects are at the foundation of this award:
- Gilgen Door Systems: more than 3000 platform-screen doors monitored live in metro networks within the Asia-Pacific region.
- Muller Technology: a packaging machine fleet connected edge-to-cloud on 56k.Cloud's platform.
- Connected industrial assets with Eurotech: edge-to-cloud monitoring for an industrial equipment manufacturer, built on Eurotech's AWS-qualified edge gateways.
"A competency is not a trophy. AWS looks at what actually runs in production at our customers and confirms that it holds up. Our people have stood on the platforms and next to the machines in question. That proximity is what the Swiss industry needs, and it is what we keep building here." — Jean-Pierre Gehrig, CEO, 56k.Cloud
For manufacturing companies that want the outcome without building their own IoT team, 56k.Cloud now offers operations as a managed service.
Where to meet us
On September 2 2026, 56k.Cloud's IoT team will be at the AWS Summit Zurich at Messe Zürich to talk with manufacturing companies that want to connect a machine fleet, that are stuck on a stalled IoT project, or that wonder what their plant data can really do for them. On the stand you will find the engineers who built these systems, not just salespeople.
