Case study – Manufacturing

Connected industrial assets, edge to cloud.

An industrial asset manufacturer wanted its machines in the field to report their own condition – securely, in real time, back to one view. 56k.Cloud built the edge-to-cloud path on Eurotech's AWS-qualified gateways and AWS IoT, hardware and cloud that were designed to work together, so the manufacturer could stand up a monitoring foundation instead of assembling one from scratch.

The problem

High-value industrial equipment – packaging machines, CNC machines, robots – was running in the field with no consistent, secure way to report its condition back to a central view. Getting there from scratch means marrying industrial-grade hardware, native field protocols, edge security, and cloud connectivity – a lot of moving parts to design, deploy, and keep running, and a set of skills the manufacturer didn't want to build in house just to see its own machines.

  • proven, industrial-grade edge hardware – not a lab prototype
  • native support for the field protocols the machines already speak (Modbus, OPC-UA, MQTT)
  • security built into the device, not bolted on after the fact
  • a qualified, supported path from the edge to AWS – no bespoke glue to maintain
  • a monitoring layer that scales as more assets come online

The architecture

Eurotech's industrial ReliaGATE gateways and ReliaCOR edge servers sit on the machines, collecting data over the field protocols the equipment already speaks and bridging it to AWS. They're AWS IoT Qualified, so the hardware and the cloud were validated to work together rather than integrated by hand. Devices onboard with zero-touch provisioning backed by a hardware root of trust – a security baseline built to the IEC 62443-4-2 L2 standard, designed into the device rather than bolted on afterward. Condition data streams into AWS IoT Core and Greengrass for secure device management and edge compute, and into AWS IoT SiteWise for the monitoring layer, built on top for the customer's own team to run.

The outcome

Industrial assets reporting their condition edge to cloud, in real time.

Industrial assets reporting their condition edge-to-cloud, in real time

A secure, qualified path from the field to AWS

An IEC 62443-4-2 L2 security baseline designed into the hardware, cutting the security effort by about half on this project.

Native field protocols handled at the gateway

Not re-engineered per machine.

A monitoring foundation on AWS

Built to add more assets as they come online.

The edge architecture stood up 70–80% faster

Than building the pattern from scratch.

Delivered on the joint 56k.Cloud + Eurotech edge-to-cloud pattern; the 70–80% and ~50% figures are that pattern's benchmark, not a measured KPI for this deployment.
